lottery by premchder

'Lottery' by Munshi Premchand
One of the best stories written by Premchand - Lottery is a complete Bollywood material. The story has been adapted by different playwrights and is quite a success among the theatre lovers.

The story revolves around the family and friends of the character named Vikram. The story is narrated by Vikram's friend who is a school teacher. The story deals with the fights and contentions between friends and families on the slightest chance of winning a lottery. How atheists turn to most religious devotees wishing God would grant them money.

Lottery can be easily adapted to the modern era considering it deals with the human nature and psychology. A film can be made on a low budget and still be successful like ‘Bheja Fry'.

gunahon ka devta dharmveer bharti

'Gunahon Ka Devta' Dharmveer Bharti
The novel by Dharmveer Bharti is one of the best romance novels written in 20th century. I am actually surprised that why such a novel has never been adapted on big screen.

Gunahon Ka Devta deals with the mental conflicts of young middle class lovers, a student Chander and his professor's daughter Sudha. It might be a very difficult task to portray literary characterization of the novel on screen. But if anyone succeeds in doing so, the film will be a masterpiece.

The film requires a small budget but very good actors, who can display the emotions in the right form. The adaptation would require a magnificent scriptwriter who can convert such a beautiful novel into a screenplay.

quuratulain hyder

'Aag Ka Darya' by Qurratulain Hyder
One of the best fiction novels, Aag Ka Darya is simply a masterpiece. Originally written in Urdu by Qurratulain Hyder the novel spans for 2000 years.

The novel basically focuses on Indo-Pak partition but starts from the time of Chandragupta Maurya. Hailed as the best novel of Indian subcontinent the novel was translated in English in 1998 by the author herself.

If Ashutosh Gowariker can make a film on Indus Valley civilization Mohan Jodaro, a film on ‘Aag Ka Darya' is also possible. It will be a costly historical drama but we can compete with Hollywood only if we make films like this.

'All About H. Hatterr' by G.V. Desani
One of the appreciated English novels by Indian writers was written by G.V. Desani. The novel was published in 1948 and established Desani as a serious writer.

All About H. Hatterr is about an Anglo-Malay man Hindustanwallah Hatter who starts a quest to search the philosophy of life. The novel is a tale of the struggle of an orphan who finds enlightenment and purpose in his life.

As Desani himself wrote, “H. Hatterr was a portrait of a man, the common vulgar species, found everywhere, both in the East and in the West.

The novel is masterpiece but can easily be adapted for silver screen. The film must be made in English as the language spoken by H. Hatter is the main attraction of the novel.
