Bollywood actor Imran Khan says he doesn't want his engagement to be a tamasha, reports HT City. Imran will swap rings with girlfriend Avantika Malik at her family farmhouse in Karjat on Saturday night.
Says Imran: "We have invited 300 guests, mostly family and close friends. We wanted to keep it personal. Aamir Khan will be there with wife Kiran, so will Mansoor (Imran's uncle and director of Qayamat se Qayamat Tak) and family."
Imran said, "I've been bombarded with queries about whether Sonam Kapoor, Deepika (Padukone) and others are coming. I have invited Karan (Johar), but no matter what media reports, I have not invited actors to the engagement. So Ranbir is not on the guestlist."
Imran will wear an outfit designed by Karan Johar and Varun Bahl. "I'm wearing a black bandgala sherwani. It is simple and elegant, no embroidery."
Avantika will don a Varun Bahl creation. The dinner will be a spread of Mughlai cuisine, prepared by chefs flown in from Lucknow. The couple will forego the trend towards a theme for the party.
"There's no dress code. In fact, two friends have borrowed my suits," laughs the actor, adding that he and Avantika were amused when event managers showed them "funny décor themes".
"We don't have to go over the top just because I'm an actor? There'll be a DJ and people will dance, like any other party. Everyone present will have a good time."
Imran has designed the engagement ring himself. "I didn't want to take Avantika to a shop and buy her a ring because that would've meant that anyone who has money could get the same ring as my fiancée. I wanted it to be unique... and special. The ring has a single big diamond in the middle and a few small ones around it."
He has specially imported a red Beetle car from Europe as a surprise present for her.
The couple met at a common friend's party eight years ago and hit it off. Guests have been invited to a daylong outing that includes a brunch, followed by the ceremony and dinner in the evening.
Invitees have been given a box with a bottle full of sand. The invite was rolled into it.
Imran Khan and his girlfriend Avantika Malik have regularly been seen together at various events.
Imran is the son of Aamir's cousin Nuzhat (sister of director Mansoor Khan).
His father Ajit Pal is based in the US. Though his parents are divorced, he is on amicable terms with his father.
Imran's in-laws-to-be, Ranjeev and Vandana Malik recently shifted home from Perry Cross Road to Carter Road, Bandra “ ahead of their daughter's big day.
Ever since his Bollywood debut in 2008 with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Imran has always been open about his relationship with Avantika.
Last year in July, Imran threw a surprise party for Avantika on her birthday in the presence of family and close friends. There, he surprised everyone by proposing to her.
Later at Arjun Rampal's nightclub opening in New Delhi, where Imran and Avantika were among the guests, a toast was raised to them. At that time, Imran had stated that a formal engagement would be held in January.
Imran also celebrated his 27th birthday on Wednesday. He had tweeted: "I'm spending my birthday the same way I spent my last three (birthdays) shooting!
I like it that way....... actually I'm trying to keep it a secret. I'm terrified that the entire unit will be made to sing for me."
The actor is presently shooting for Puneet Malhotra's I Hate Love Stories, produced by Karan Johar. He also features in Aamir's production Delhi Belly, directed by Abhinay Deo.
