Mumbai : All set for his acting debut in Karan Johar's ‘Student of the Year', director David Dhawan's son Varun says as a child he wanted to become a wrestler.
“I have this dream of directing. But as a child I wanted to become a wrestler. Like in childhood we used to watch WWF, I was inspired by all of that. One of my favourite wrestlers was Rock, who has become an actor,” Varun told reporters here last evening at the first look of his film.
“I used to have lot of arguments with my mother, due to a lot of bruises on my body for trying my hand at wrestling. I used to say ‘I am Rock' and I would get slapped,” the debutant actor said.
The younger son of king of comedy David Dhawan, Varun grew up on a regular feed of mainstream cinema even as his elder brother Rohit is a director (‘Desi Boyz').
“Rock became an actor and he is quite successful. So one day I realised that it (love for wrestling) is not going to take me anywhere, so forget it. The entertainment part has always attracted me. I wanted to be performer, like I used to dance at weddings. I felt acting was my calling and that is something I wanted to do,” he said.
Before entering Bollywood, Varun had an eventful journey as he went to Manchester to enrol for a course in business management after which he landed up with a job of an assistant director in Karan Johar's ‘My Name is Khan'.
Now, Varun is making his acting debut in ‘Student of the Year' alongside two newcomers - Alia Bhatt, daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan, and Siddharth Malhotra.
“It is like a dream in many ways - like doing a Karan Johar film. To do your first film is a dream. I still don't know if it is real, the day it releases may be that time I will realise that I am making my debut in films,” he said.
The film is set to release on October 19. PTI
