In one of the iconic scenes in the film, Radha advices Sooraj to ctrl- alt- del his violent past and start afresh for a peaceful future. That's the kind of wish you would make once you leave the theatre after watching this 132 minute struggle.
32 years back, Hero catapulted Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri into the big league of Bollywood stars. Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that the film's remake will do the same for the debuting duo.
A top cop's daughter Radha (Athiya Shetty) is kidnapped by Sooraj ( sooraj pancholi), the leading henchman of gangster and father's arch rival Pasha ( Aditya Pancholi) who is under trial in a murder case. Sooraj and Radha falls for each other much to the dismay of the latter's father. Sooraj decides to rehabilitate himself only to invite the ire of his mentor Pasha. Suddenly a new character Ranvijay (Vivan Bhatena) barges in out of nowhere only to drag the film further and replace Pasha as the baddie in film.
Nikhil Advani has mostly stuck to the original story with some unimaginative changes that only misfire. Expecting a strong plot and powerful performances in a masala film was asking for too much but Hero fails to deliver even on basic levels.
It challenges the viewer's intelligence with its incoherent script, poor direction and below par performances.
Sitting through the film is in itself an ordeal; a weak script makes it excruciatingly long.
The director should have seen that it's 2015, it's very difficult to comprehend that even in digital age, a girl gets herself kidnapped and without an iota of doubt romances the kidnapper.
Another major plot-hole in the script is when Pasha uses his connections to explode a bomb outside a court to escape an imminent prison sentence and later reappears as a miserable father figure only to be saved by the lead.
The camera gives ample scope to Sooraj Pancholi to flex his muscles and show his perfectly sculpted body but his acting needs some real workout. Athiya's portrayal of an ignorant girl who is unaware of the mess she is getting in, doesn't ring a bell. Her character bears an uncanny resemblance to Sonam Kapoor but given the weak screenplay the debutants did not have much to offer.
And was Aditya Pancholi launching his son or was it the other way around? His was the most warped character in the film, he could have done a favour to his son by not butchering the character of Pasha.
And last but not the least, the talented Tigmanshu Dhulia was totally miscast for this role and looked mostly clueless in the film.
So here we are suggesting to cinegoers, it's better to ctrl alt del the idea of watching this film.
