Mumbai: Former beauty queen-turned-actress Gul Panag, a fitness enthusiast, has lent support to Pinkathon Mumbai 2013, an exclusive women's only 10 km run here for breast cancer awareness.
'Pinkathon - Run to Lead', the multi-category running event will be held Dec 15.
Organised by event solutions company Maximus MICE & Media Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the run will be led by avid runner Milind Soman and Maximus Events managing director Reema Sanghavi.
The focus of the event is to encourage women's health and fitness and to create awareness about breast cancer.
The "Dor" actress believes a platform like Pinkathon will "go a long way in educating people about the cause and prevention of a much-neglected ailment like breast cancer".
"I am delighted to help further the cause. It is crucial that we do whatever it takes to raise awareness about breast cancer and help improve the lives of millions of women affected by it," she said in a statement.
"Not many people know that it is among the curable cancers if detected early. I urge women to become more alert and aware about the disease," added the 34-year-old.
Around 3,000 women are expected to be a part of the event.
Maximus Events has also joined hands with the Women's Cancer Initiative (WCI) led by Deveika Bhojwani and the Tata Memorial Hospital for the initiative.
Popular radio jockey Malishka will be the mascot for the run in Mumbai.
Pinkathon has also tied up with author Gauri Jayaram's debut novel "Wise Enough to be Foolish", a fictionalised memoir, to raise funds for WCI as part of sales proceeds from the book get donated to Pinkathon's cause.
The registration for the run is open online.
