Gori Tere Pyar Mein movie review: Kareena-Imran's chemistry fails this time

Taking an old idea and serving it with new stars doesn't give that idea a new dimension, which one can applaud. Gori Tere Pyar Mein is one such mess which offers you nothing new in terms of story line and concept.Film: Gori Tere Pyaar Mein;Cast: Imran Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Anupam Kher;Director: Punit Malhotra;Rating: **Atleast I didn't expect from house of Dharma Production, which in couple of years has produced concrete content. Punit Malhotara who did his directorial debut with ‘I hate love story' once again capitalises over the star cast and the shimmer around them.Dia Sharma (Kareena Kapoor) is who blatantly believes in social service ventures into village to feel their ‘gareebi and lachari' and help them out. And follows her is her flirtatious lover Sriram Venkat (Imran Khan) who has just ran from his wedding with a South Indian girl Shabbu Patel (Shraddha Kapoor) who herself provokes him to do so. The rest is needless to be narrated.So now this desi Chora from Videsh will ‘patao' his Desi Gori by helping her sorting out the problems arising in village where you will see Lagaan sort of unity and abundance of dance group. This will also make you recall some utterly romance from 80's and 90's.Unfortunately, this flick doesn't give you even that feel for a moment. I like that one scene where Imran in his wedding ceremony following the rituals is given one last chance to skip the most toughest bond and he actually does so, while all other sequences fall flat. Imran's character has shades of transition. He is initially portrayed as a guy with a silver spoon who doesn't have a count on his girlfriends and lives life opposite to what Kareena lives.He also gives a moral session to his South Indian fiance Shraddha and her Punjabi lover as their world is apart but he himself loses so effortlessly over the demise of a creature crap who is considered to be final link between him and Kareena. Really! We are left with a stupid dose of laughter over why can't Punit find a better link?A big problem lies here. The director makes such characters so unbelievable that you crave for leaving the theatres since you know what is about to come out of them.All of this badly fails to engage you but most prominently what doesn't works and was expected to, is the chemistry between our lead Chora and Chori. It was a surprise when we saw Imran and Kareena's sparkling comfort onscreen in ‘Ek Main Aur Ek Tu' and just the same was desired in this flick.Thought their age difference is reasonably highlighted in the flick at couple of occasions. Performance wise Imran Khan once again loses his way this time. He gives uncountable expressions which are hard to judge. It is only Kareena Kapoor Khan who gives some genuine expressions to make you feel the curiousty and responsibility she is bearing towards the villagers.Anupam Kher keeps the act limited as required and is good. Shraddha Kapoor's friendly appearance doesn't go unnoticed.Music by Vishal-Shekhar is good but will stay until the flick remains in theatres. Background score by Salim-Sulaiman also accompanies the scenes.I'll go with two stars for Gori Tere Pyar Mein. Please skip this one.
