New Delhi: Tragedy King Dilip kumar aka Yusuf Khan is generally regarded as the first Khan superstar of Bollywood. It was Devika Rani and owner of Bombay Talkies, who gave Yusuf Khan the screen name Dilip Kumar. Dilip Kumar's fans are legion. He was the first actor to receive the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1954 and shares the record for the most number of Filmfare awards won for that category with the present Badshah Shahrukh Khan. Here are five untold stories about Dilip Kumar's personal life : ----1. One word ‘sorry' broke off Dilip's love story with Madhubala: ----- The reason Madhubala broke up with Dilip Kumar was B R Chopra's film Naya Daur. Madhubala had shot a part of the film when the makers decided to go for an outdoor shoot to Gwalior. The place was known for dacoits, and Madhuabala's father asked them to change the location. They disagreed because they wanted a hilly terrain. Madhubala's father asked her to quit the film.He was ready to pay the deficit. B R Chopra asked Dilip Kumar for help. Dilip and Madhubala were engaged then. Dilip tried to mediate but Madhubala refused to disobey her father. B R Chopra's production filed a case against Madhubala, which went on for a year. But this did not spoil their relationship. Dilip told her to forget movies and get married to him. Madhubala said she would marry him, provided he apologised to her father. Dilip refused, and Madhubala left him. That one word 'sorry' could have changed Madhubala's life. She loved Dilip till the day she died. 2. Tragedy King faced depression in real life: --- Dilip Kumar started getting type cast as a 'Tragedy King'. Many of his movies in which he played tragic roles like Daag, Devdaas, and many others became big hits and the producers kept making similar movies with him as the tragic hero. As a result of playing tragic roles again and again, Dilip Kumar started getting depression in real life, as reel life caught up with him. He went to a psychiatrist who advised him to act in some comedy movies. Dilip took the advice. Some great comedy movies like Kohinoor and Azaad resulted and Dilip Kumar found that he had outgrown his depression. 3.Dilip Kumar's first love was Kamini Kaushal: Much before his marriage with Saira Bano, Dilip lost his heart for the first time in his life to the renowned actress Kamini Kaushal. Their romance started on the set of 'Shaheed'(1948) and soon they were planning to get married but Kamini's brother who was in the army played spoilsport. Kamini's brother threatened Dilip Kumar saying he should break off all his connections with Kamini .For Kamini also, it was not possible to rise against her family as she was already married to her late sister's husband, Mr.Sood, only for the sake of looking after the child which she left behind her. 4.Dilip Kumar and Saira Bano, a love story : After he broke up with Madhubala , Dilip Kumar did not marry till the age of 44, when he met 22-year-old Saira Bano and fell in love again.
