Bangalore, Apr 2: Nearly 5,000 people dropped their Sunday plans  and hotfooted their way to Nandi Hills near Bangalore for a glimpse of Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra on April Fools Day, reports Bangalore Mirror.

A local FM channel had spread the rumour that Priyanka would be doing a song-and-dance sequence on Nandi Hills for Mani Ratnam's film Veerudu.

This was further multiplied by some websites and the 'news' was scrolled non-stop on local Kannada news channels.

As the news spread like wildfire on the internet, a Twitter post on Saturday said, "I am planning to go to Nandi hills on Sunday. Heard filmstars are coming. Anyone want to join".

By Sunday morning, a huge crowd turned up at  Nandi Hills which is 60 km from Bangalore.

The crowd waited patienty till afternoon for Piggy Chops to arrive but there was still no sign of her. And then, the bitter truth of April Fools day dawned.

Eye-witnesses said that there were so many vehicles heading to the hill station that there was a jam on the narrow, dangerous hairpin curves.

Police had a tough time to clear the traffic mess.

Chikkaballapur circle inspector Mahesh Kumar said, around 800 vehicles had come to the hill station.

Techie Vineet Kumar thought it was Vidya Balan who would be doing the honours and the Vidya story had even more embellishments.

Since the release of Kahaani, there has been news that Vidya was keen to do a South Indian film since she was a South Indian herself. "So,I got a message on my phone that she was to shoot a scene on Nandi Hills. When I went on top, there was no sign of any film crew," said Kumar.

"When I asked someone",he said  "Vidya would descend from a chopper! Only after a couple of hours, did we realise that we were nothing but April bakras", he said.
