Self acceptance is more important than social acceptance

Padma Shri fashion designer Wendell Rodricks states that he is "openly gay." Married to Jerome Marrell, Rodricks today enjoys the stature of being one of the most influential international designers.

In his book titled "The Green Room," the designer has mentioned how essential and crucial the presence of Marrel has been in his life.

Another prominent name that instantly pops up in the industry when you paint the word 'gay' on your canvas is that of Sushant Divgikar. The man who is the lone gay professional to have won various special awards at World Gay 2014, Sushant is quite a popular face today.

He has also been one of the most lovable contestants in Indian reality show Bigg Boss 8. Sushant has always maintained that he feels proud being associated with LGBT community and finds satisfaction in promoting "sensitivity" towards the same.

The other noted personalities who belong to the same matrix but have differentiated themselves as 'equal to others' include the names like Rohit Verma, V J Andy and late Rituparno Ghosh.

While the entire nation is mourning the death of the lady who succumbed to her husband's torture. We say the bigger deal remained not in 'torturing' but in 'not accepting.'
