Hema Malini's daughter Esha Deol resurfaced after almost a year on Sunday to launch a jewellery boutique in Mumbai.

Dressed in a safe black number, boring hair, clean make up and uncoordinated accessories, she looked lazy, swollen and disinterested, says a media report.

Even her posing skills seemed to be in a dire need of an overhaul. Films or no films, such is the cut- throat world of entertainment today, that it's all about being seen and staying on top of people's mind.

Other Gen Now actresses of Esha's age are finding novel ways to stay in the news. Mallika Sherawat has become the leader of the twitter- pack.

Sonam Kapoor doesn't leave any opportunity to stay in the news for her high- fashion ways. Then, there are rivals Katrina and Kareena who make sure they have enough share in the newsspace by keeping their love- lives and fad diets interesting.

Even newcomer Asin, who didn't get much prominence in Bollywood, has made sure not to fade away in public memory by making redcarpet appearances and attending events.

Esha's last film, Hijack came out in 2008 and sank without a trace. The fact that it had ill- famed Shiney Ahuja in it might have made matters worse.

Her only claim to fame, so far, besides being Hema and Dharmendra's daughter, has been Dhoom . While her bikini act in the hit film was a talking point, critics say it may also have helped bracket her in the item girl mode.

Then followed the year- long hiatus, where she was rumoured to have gone to rehab in New York for a drug problem. Though her disappearing act got mixed reports from both her manager and family, the rumour didn't help her sagging career in an industry where a star's reputation is supreme.

In an industry where there's a fresh batch of go- getter girls, always ready to outdo each other with heavy PR and photo- ops, Esha's disappearance from the scene could have hurt her career.

What is it then that leads Esha, 28, to live a life on the fringes and not be concerned about fading away? Her next film, Tell Me Oh Khuda , is slated for release only in 2012. Wonder if people will remember the Junior Dreamgirl by then.
