Author Chetan Bhagat has decided to work as director Vishal Bharadwaj's assitant on the sets of the film adaptation of his novel 2 States, says a media report.

If moving from banking to writing wasn't enough of a career jump for Chetan Bhagat, his latest decision to assist a filmmaker will surely be.

Apart from collaborating with Vishal Bhardwaj to work on the screenplay of the movie adaptation of his novel 2 States, Bhagat will also assist him to learn the ropes of film direction. Chetan says, learning how to direct a film has been on his mind for long now.

“I am in touch with Vishal Bhardwaj,” says Bhagat, “And I will definitely be collaborating on the script of 2 States. Vishal is a very gifted filmmaker. And if he will allow me, I would definitely like to learn direction from him.” Vishal is more than happy to take on Chetan Bhagat as an apprentice while shooting 2 States.

Writers rarely cross over to making films but Bharadwaj has always been interested in literature.

Praising Vishal,  Bhagat says, “Bhardwaj has made movies out of other literary works and has adapted them very successfully to the screen. Just how far he would like me to be involved with the screenplay of 2 States will depend on him.”

Given the 3 Idiots controversy did not go down well with Chetan, Bhardwaj may want to clearly define both their roles.

Meanwhile, Chetan has been actively involved with the screenplay of two films adapted from his novels- Hello (from One Night At The Call Centre) and Abhishek Kapoor's adaptation of The 3 Mistakes Of My Life. Not much progress has been made with Abhishek Kapoor's adaptation.

Explains Chetan, “It's being produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. They're busy with Farhan's Don 2 and other projects. I am sure it will be made in good time.”
