The volcanic ash cloud over European skies has thrown travel plans of several Bollywood actors off the track. Katrina Kaif had to miss the flight to London and her maternal grandfather's 90th birthday celebrations there, reports Mid Day.

Katrina, who was to leave on Friday said, "I was trying to get to London for an important family function yesterday but all the flights were cancelled so I couldn't attend it. I am very upset! All the air spaces were shut because of the volcano so there was no chance of going. I waited till Saturday for the British air space to open so I could go but no chance."

Katrina said,  the event was very special for her. "It was my grandfather's 90th birthday (April 18) and all my family members had gathered in London to celebrate it. I hate this volcano! It's ruining everything and our papers are only talking about the IPL when Europe is in a crisis of epic proportions."

The ash cloud emanating from Iceland's active Eyjafjallaj kull volcano halted air traffic across a wide swathe of continental Europe beginning Thursday till Sunday, grounding planes on a scale unseen since the 2001 terror attacks as authorities stopped all flights over Britain, Ireland and the Nordic nations.

Akshay Kumar's wife Twinkle Khanna too was stuck in Milan where she had gone to attend a furniture show to pick up stuff for her interior design store.

Tina was to return on April 16 but got stranded for a day. While husband Akshay Kumar was in Canada shooting for Thank You (Aarav was alone in Mumbai with his grandparents), a frantic Mrs Kumar finally caught a train from Milan to Rome and finally, the only flight that was available on Sunday.

Farhan Akhtar had to change his travel plans because he was stuck in Berlin. Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani were doing a recce in Berlin for Don 2 and had to figure out way to come back.

Farhan was lucky to get the last flight out of Switzerland. He was initially to fly Berlin-London-Mumbai. But after the incident, he changed his plan to Berlin-Zurich-Mumbai and got back as scheduled.

Shriya Saran who was to fly from Zurich to London for a shoot had to change her plans. "Her travel schedule had to be changed. She took the Eurostar from London to Paris and then changed trains there for Interlaken." Most of the stars were trying to figure out alternative ways of making it to their destinations.

Vivek Oberoi also postponed his London trip. The actor was scheduled to attend a couple of promotional events for Prince in the city. A source close to him says, "Because all the flights were cancelled or heavily booked, he's decided to postpone his trip to next weekend."

Producer Mozez Singh was stuck in Milan where he had gone to attend a fashion event.
