Bollywood's top 10 acclaimed movies of 2012

The year 2012 is coming to an end and Bollywood has given the maximum number of critically acclaimed flicks which entertained their admirers and would be remembered for a long time. Right from the remakes of Bollywood classics upto the adaptation of South Dramas, filmmakers gave us a variety of options to select our favourites which was actually a very difficult task to select from.Breaking last few years' record, there were eight biggies which made to the Rs 100cr club this year, while some films, despite being critically acclaimed and loved all over, failed to enter the elite club because of their low base. India TV here gives a list of all those films which made it to the top 10 acclaimed films of 2012, keeping their box office collection reports aside: Gangs of Wasseypur- With no big superstars, the flick stood to the test of entertainment. With twisted dialogues, tight script and over the top performance by each of its characters, Anurag Kashyap gave a brilliant portrayal of coal mafia set before Independence and age-old rivalry. Nevertheless, the flick was an epic drama and people were thrilled. Barfi!- It was a brilliant comeback by Anurag Basu with Barfi! after a flop show with Kites. A beautiful portrayal of a love triangle, with a larger than life message, Barfi! was a sweet treat as it touched viewers all over. People fell in love with the mute character Murphy and Jhilmil for their extraordinary, yet innocent, performances. The flick truly entered the 100-cr. club.English Vinglish- Sridevi's comeback performance was such that the spectators weren't able to stop themselves to relate with Shashi who was so poor with her English. Director Gauri Shinde took up a simple yet strong subject for which most of the sons and daughter were grateful to her for a sensitive portrayal. Kahaani- Kahani was one of the better suspense dramas we have witnessed in the past. A nifty thriller with unpredictable suspense in the end made Kahaani one of the likeable flicks of 2012. Vidya Balan was at her best as an independent lady searching her husband in Kolkata and once again she gave a moving performance after The Dirty Picture.Vicky Donor- Subject like infertility and sperm donation was needed to be handled with care. Shoojit Sircar took up this issue with responsibility and delivered it deliberately with humour. Spectators accepted it with respect and there was a line of sperm donors. The flick was declared a superhit by the Box Office and it gave a kickstart to the very talented Ayshman Khurana.Paan Singh Tomar- Portrayal of any sports person is never an easy task, especially when it's an athlete-turned dacoit Paan Singh Tomar. Irrfan Khan devoted his fullest and delivered his best in this flick. The portrayal of a helpless international athlete thrown into difficult times by the Indian system, brought a lump in one's throat as people realised that there is only one sports activity (cricket) where players revel in riches. Talaash- This flick was much more than a predictable murder mystery. A story about love and relationship and more than its question on clairvoyance it entertained its viewers. Aamir, Kareena and Rani with their superb performances stole people's hearts. Agneepath- 1990 Agneepath was close to Late Yash Johar's heart but was a commercial flop then. But son Karan Johar replicated it with sheer finesse and responsibility. With power-packed performances by Sanjay-Hrithik-Rishi Kapoor trio, director Karan Malhotra delivered the old-fashioned revenge saga with perfection, as many termed it a better Agneepath than the old one. The flick is also the third highest grosser of the year with more than Rs. 100cr collection at the box office after Ek Tha Tiger and Rowdy Rathore.OMG- Awakening people's consciousness in a larger way, Akki-Paresh Rawal's O My God broke people's false faith in God and godmen. Taking a dig at politics of religion, the flick worked out at every segment of the society and performed better than many big household flicks.Shanghai- This political thriller based on the French flick Z and the novel of the same name, was an honest flick by Dibakar Banerjee. The flick makes you think by giving a stunning impact over government policies. Though not one of the biggest hits, but this can't be given a miss.
