Mumbai, Oct 1 : Famous fashion designer Riyaz Gangji on Friday lodged an FIR against one of the sons of senior Maharashtra minister Narayan Rane for allegedly assaulting him.
Gangji, while lodging the FIR, failed to identify which of the two sons of the minister had manhandled him, police said.
However, in his later statements, Gangji told police that it was MP Nilesh Rane, who had assaulted him at the Juhu signal, police said.
Police said that Gangji claimed that Rane' son was getting down from his vehicle in Juhu area, when a speeding vehicle, with Gangji inside it, zoomed off from there, DCP P Dighavkar said.
"Gangji complained at the Juhu police station that as his vehicle reached a signal in Juhu area, the minister's son came in his four-wheeler, got down from it and started assaulting him," the DCP added.
Senior police inspector at Juhu police station Arun Bhagat told PTI that Gangji's vehicle was also damaged by the minister's son and five of his other associates.
Police sources said that the security personnel of Rane's son complained that Gangji had driven his vehicle in such a way that would have caused his accident and because of which, the former had become curious.
Sources added that this might have led Rane's son to follow Gangji's vehicle and assault him at the signal.
Bhagat said that the FIR has been registered against the one of the sons of Rane under IPC section 143, 147, 323, 505, 506 and 427. "Initially Gagji could not identity which of the two sons were involved the incident. However, after the FIR was registered, Ganji mentioned in the statement that it was Nilesh who assaulted him."
