Bollywood stars are known for immortalising die-hard lovers on the big-screen but in real life many of them choose the traditional way of matrimony. The latest example of the arranged marriage trend is Haider star Shahid Kapoor, who tied the knot with Delhi girl Mira Rajput in Gurgaon last month on July 7.
Shahid's wedding to Mira was a grand affair and the entire B-town went gaga over it.
In fact the 34-year-old actor surprised everyone with the news of him going the traditional route. Mira was chosen by his parents and the rest as we say is history.
However, he is not the only one in the glam industry to have opted for an arranged marriage. Here's the list:
Karan Patel - Ankita Bhargava
Karan Patel, who is currently seen as Raman Bhalla in ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein', recently got married to Ankita Bhargava in an arranged marriage on May 3, 2015.
The heart-throb of many shocked everyone after he broke the news of his wedding. Ankita is the daughter of his co-star Abhay Bhargava.
Interestingly, Abhay also plays Karan's father-in-law in the show Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.
However, it was Karan's friend and co-star Aly Goni who played cupid and brought the two families together.
Vivek Oberoi – Priyanka Alva
After the much hyped relationship and break-up with the blue-eyed beauty of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, actor Vivek Oberoi too chose to go for the traditional route.
It was Vivek's mother who played cupid for the couple.
Vivek was reported as saying that it was his mom who made him meet Priyanka in Florence. While Vivek was not interested in meeting Priyanka initially, he was stumped to see her for the first time.
Vivek recalls that Priyanka was just so herself and so attractive that after their first meeting, Vivek decided to spend his life with her.
The couple met on on July 4, 2010, got engaged on September 7 and got married on October 29, 2010.
Karishma Kapoor - Sanjay Kapur
Bollywood diva Karishma Kapoor was initially engaged to Abhishek Bachchan but the engagement didn't last for long and the reason is still under wraps as both the Kapoors and Bachchans kept mum over it.
After the break-up with Junior B, Karishma decided to marry her best friend Sanjay Kapur on September 29, 2003 in an arranged marriage.
However, Karisma Kapoor has not been lucky in matters of the heart as her marriage is going through a rocky phase and both have filed for divorce.
The couple have two children, daughter Samaira and son Kiaan.
Madhuri Dixit – Shriram Nene
The wedding of the ‘Dhak-Dhak' girl Madhuri Dixit came as an utter surprise to everyone.
Madhuri was involved with Sanjay Dutt during the making of Saajan in 1990. However with Dutt's arrest under TADA in 1993, Madhuri ended the relationship.
The actress was at the peak of her career when she decided to settle down with US based doctor Shriram Nene in an arranged marriage on October 17, 1999.
Madhuri reportedly said that one of the reasons to marry her doctor husband was his culinary skills.
Madhuri then moved to the US and bid farewell to Bollywood, not for long though. She came to India with the musical drama Aaja Nachle in 2007 and went back again only to return permanently to Mumbai in 2011 along with her husband and two sons.
Dhanush - Aishwarya
Dhanush is a South star who made his Bollywood debut with Raanjhanaa while Aishwarya is the eldest daughter of the Superstar Rajnikanth.
It was at the first day's show of the film Kadhal Kondaen when Dhanush met both the daughters of Rajnikanth.
He knew Aishwarya for some time but only as his elder sister's friend. But when the media reportedly started writing about their 'alleged' affair, the two families sat together to find a way to dispel the rumours and ended up deciding to get the two married.
When Dhanush made the announcement, he thanked the media for enabling his marriage. The couple tied the knot on November 18, 2004.
