Word had been around that Vivek Oberoi's parents were scouting for a bride for him. Their search, it seems, has ended in Bangalore. The 34-year-old actor, who hasn't exactly been lucky in love, will settle down with Priyanka Alva, 28, reports Mumbai Mirror.
Priyanka is the daughter of well-known danseuse Nandini Alva and late Janata Dal (U) leader Jeevaraj Alva.
After years of being single, Vivek will finally change his status in the first week of September with his engagement to Priyanka, who has studied in London.
The wedding, sources add, is slated for October. But the details of this event are a closely guarded secret right now.
The match was apparently arranged with help from Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer Padmini Ravi, who is a close friend of Nandini.
They're also relatives: Padmini's daughter is married to Nandini's sister's brother-in-law (go figure). The grapevine has it that Nandini played matchmaker for the union.
Nandini and Padmini are also the trustees of Artistes Foundation for Arts, which organises a yearly festival of art and culture in Bangalore. When contacted, Padmini said, “It wouldn't be fair on my part to comment on this.”
Our sources say that bride-to-be Priyanka is a “level-headed and intelligent girl”. “She is non-filmi, sociable and sweet-natured,” they say.
Vivek, whose recent passion has been writing poetry, had earlier said in an interview that he wouldn't mind marrying a girl of his parents' choice. “I am sure the match my parents pick will turn out to be the girl of my dreams,” he had said.
The actor was engaged to model Gurpreet in 2002. The relationship didn't work. Vivek was then linked to many of his co-stars including Neeru Bajwa, Vidya Balan and Aishwarya Rai.
A failing career and bad press also left Vivek in a slump. Hopefully, the dark clouds will clear now.
The Alva family refused to comment on the wedding for reasons of privacy. A text message to Vivek elicited no reply. We're hoping he's busy because he's in good company.
