Mumbai, Oct 8 : Popular singer Asha Bhonsle's daughter Varsha Bhonsle committed suicide this morning in her Peddar Road residence, police said. 




Asha Bhonsle was not at home at that time. She is reportedly in Singapore in connection with a concert.  

The suicide took place in "Prabhu Kunj", the famous residence of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle on Peddar Road.  

Varsha Bhonsle was  a singer and columnist and was in her mid 50s, she had attempted suicide earlier on at least two occasions

In 2008, she tried to commit suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills.  

Today in the morning . She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. 

Police said Varsha had a history of depression.

VARSHA BHOSLE (born 1956) is an Indian singer, journalist and writer based in Mumbai. She is the daughter of Indian playback singer, Asha Bhosle.

She currently lives in Mumbai with her mother. On September 9, 2008, she was reported to have been hospitalized following an adverse reaction to medicines. 

Asha's daughter Varsha worked as a columnist for The Sunday Observer and Rediff. Asha's youngest child, Anand Bhosle, has studied business and film direction. 

Varsha has worked as a playback singer in Hindi and Marathi movies, and appeared in concerts with her mother. 

Varsha finished school from Hill Grange High School, on Pedder Road, Mumbai, in 1974, with an ISC. 

She studied Political Science at Elphinstone College, which is affiliated with Bombay University in Mumbai. 

She wrote columns for the Indian web portal, Rediff, during 1997 - 2003; columns for The Sunday Observer during 1994 - 1998; and for Gentleman magazine in 1993. She also wrote a little for the Times of India. 

Born in 1956, Varsha Bhosle worked as a columnist for The Sunday Observer and Rediff.  She worked as a playback singer in Hindi and Marathi film, and appeared in concerts with her mother.
 
Varsha finished schooling from Hill Grange High School, on Peddar Road, in 1974, with an ISC.
