New Delhi: Born on September 10, 1972, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has found a place in Bollywood's big league.

Kashyap was born in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh and did his schooling from Dehradun initially and later on moved to Gwalior's Scindia School.

He was an avid film buff during childhood but couldn't continue with his schooling on. But as he moved to Delhi's Hansraj College studying Zoology, the film fever caught him yet again.

Many think that 'Black Friday' (2007) is Anurag's full length feature directorial debut but it is not. His actual debut, 'Paanch', remains unreleased to this date because he has refused to make cuts as suggested by the Censor Board.

His last film Ugly not only won him accolades in the international film festival circuit, his psychological saga is being appreciated back home as well.

Born in Gorakhpur, Kashyap was noticed in Bollywood after Ram Gopal Varma's Satya became a cult hit.

Back then he wanted to be a filmmaker, but apparently his ideas were way ahead of the times. He got a reality check when his debut film, Paanch was banned.

Post Paanch, Anurag made Black Friday and that too was banned because of the controversial subject.

After years of raving and ranting against B-town celebs, Kashyap finally got his first box office success in the form of Dev.D. And overnight he had become one of the most sought after filmmakers.

Anurag Kashyap has its own unconventional way of depicting stories in movie. Sometimes he is criticized while some time he is appreciated. But he doesn't stop narrating stories that he believes in, but backs many other directors and produce their films.

Vikramaditya Motwane, Rajkumar Gupta, Bejoy Nambiar, Sachin Kundalkar, Richa Chadda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Kalki Koechlin are some of his most prolific discoveries.

Controversies and Anurag Kashyap go hand in hand but that does not make him to lose his focus towards 'his' type of cinema.

Kashyap has evolved as India's representative at most of the prestigious international film festivals. Post Dev.D there was no looking back for Kashyap.

He joined the league of commercial cinema in his own experimental way. 2009 was a successful year for Anurag with Gulaal and Dev.D.
