Mumbai,Mar 7:Television actor Amar Upadhyay said he is producing a Marathi film, the shooting of which would begin shortly.
"I am working on a Marathi film. We will produce it and are looking to release it before Ganesh Chaturthi.
We are in the scripting stage... after casting, the shooting will start soon," Amar, who shot to fame with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, told PTI.
"The subject of the film is amazing. It is a commercial masala entertainer. It has comedy, action. It will be a Manmohan Desai kind of film," he said.
Amar feels Marathi cinema has a lot of potential and he looks forward to explore it.
"Marathi films are doing well for quite some time. They are doing better than any other regional films. I must say good quality Marathi films are being made. The market is big," Amar said.
"I know a couple of people, who have produced it and they wanted my support. As a businessman I know how to do it, they think my involvement as a producer will work," he said.
However, when asked Amar said he would not act in this yet-to-be-titled film. "I am not acting. I would take a star. We will look for a famous actor from the Marathi film industry for this film," he said.
If all goes well, the film will go on the floors in August. The release will hopefully happen by the end of this year, he said.
Though the small screen brought name and fame to the actor, he said he is not keen on producing TV shows.
"It has been on my mind, but I don't want to run behind channels. If I have some idea, I will bounce on them.
I think films is an open market and anyone can release it and for TV shows one has to run behind channels for telecast. I think films are more creative," he said.
But he is looking to produce Hindi films. "I will see how our Marathi film fares. Producing a Hindi film is definitely in the pipeline... I want to be a producer.
We are looking into backing a Hindi film. But nothing finalised yet," he said.
