Mumbai: This is a great news for both fans of bollywood and South Indian cinema as well.

Bollywood's own Akshay'The Khiladi' Kumar has been roped in to play the baddie in director Shankar's Robot-2.

Kumar will fight superstar Rajnikanth in the sequel to the 'Robot' .

Robot-2, also called Enthiraan 2 in Tamil, is expected to be the most expensive at this point of time.

“Akshay is all set to make his Tamil debut with the film in which he will be playing the villain,” a source from the film's unit told IANS.

Confirming the news, Kumar Tweeted

The news has taken micro blogging site twitter by storm with #AkshayInRobot2 trending on top for last few hours.

Robot-2 is also expected to cash in on the huge fan base of both superstars from North India and South India.

Reports also say that the producers had also approached Aamir Khan for the role but nothing materialised at the end.

According to TOI, earlier the makers were also in talks with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and tried to rope him as the villain but the talks failed because there was extensive paperwork involved in getting the ex-Governor of California to come and work in India."

The film -- a sequel to “Enthiran” -- will be helmed by Shankar.

Also starring Amy Jackson, who will reportedly be playing a robot, the film is being produced by Lyca Productions.

While A.R Rahman will compose the tunes, Nirav Shah will crank the camera.

“Baahubali” fame Srinivas Mohan will take care of the visual effects work in the film, which will hit the screens next year.
