Bollywood star Akshay Kumar on Saturday  held a screening of his new film "Khatta Meetha", a tale of a man grappling with corruption, for some politicians and bureaucrats to "highlight problems faced by people of the country".

Akshay invited the top brass which included Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Kamal Nath and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni.  "'Khatta Meetha' is a story of a common man who is bearing the brunt of corruption in the system. This screening is a means to show the politicians the problems faced by people everywhere from small villages to big cities," the actor said.

Directed by Priyadarshan, "Khatta Meetha" is satirical comedy starring Akshay as Sachin Tichkule, a road contractor making his way out of bureaucratic clutches and corruption.

This film is a remake of the directors 1989 hit Malayalam film "Velanakalude Nadu" starring Mohan Lal and Shobhana.  Nath said he acknowledged that the film was not just for entertainment but held message for all of us.

"I am happy that Akshay has invited me to see his new work. I understand it is not just for entertainment. The film shows the corrupt system and is a critical take on it. And our responsibility is to accept that criticism and work for its improvement."

When asked about the development of achieving his target of building roads over a rate 20 km till June, Nath said, "I had promised it and it is happening.

We are working towards it. It is something which cannot be kept hidden and the result will be soon out for all."

Soni said her ministry is closely associated with cinema and was expressed happiness that the film tackles issues which need attention.

"I will try to support them and work for them," Soni said.  Apart from bureaucrats and politicians, Akshay's mother-in-law actress Dimple Kapadia was also present at the screening.  The film, also starring south Indian actress Trisha, has received a lukewarm response from critics. PTI
