New Delhi: The box-office collection this year was going really low. The last time it saw a hike was in December 2015 when ‘Dilwale' and ‘Bajirao Mastani' had hit the silver screens.
The first Friday of 2016 didn't see any release. And then came Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar starrer ‘Wazir' which received an average response from the audience.
But now it seems that ‘Airlift' is all set to break the January jinx. The movie has received an impressive opening at the box-office on its opening day.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the first day collection of the movie saying, “#Airlift has an IMPRESSIVE Day 1. Fri ₹ 12.35 cr. India biz. Exceptional word of mouth. Biz should multiply over the weekend.”
Starring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in the lead roles, ‘Airlift' is a move based on the real life incident focussing on the largest human evacuation when around 1,70,000 Indians were evacuated after Iraq had invaded Kuwait in 1990.
The movie is helmed by Raja Krishna Menon who had reportedly given several years to research on the subject and even met various people associated with the issue.
