Mumbai, Mar 27: In a bid to create awareness about drug abuse among people, particularly youth, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) today held an “Awareness Run Against Drug Abuse” that was flagged off by Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan.

“It is a great initiative and one should say no to drugs. They (the agency) are doing a great work in helping educate people,” Bachchan said.

“Sanjay Dutt, who is like one of my family members, is the one who told me about the ill effects of drugs. I also appeal to youth to stay away from the drugs,” the junior Bachchan said.

Adding to the World Cup fever, Abhishek said he hoped India would reach the final and lift the World Cup.  Yashodhan Wanage, Zonal Director, NCB, stated, “This run to some extent would surely have an impact on the youth.” The two-kilometre run along the Marine Drive began at NCPA, Nariman Point and culminated at the Police Gymkhana as over 400 people and members of various NGOs participated in it.

Aimed at sensitising youth about social consequences as well as overall ill-effects of drug consumption, the symbolic run was part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the NCB.

The officials at the NCB said that the national agency has busted as many as 10 laboratories manufacturing synthetic drugs in lst three years and have seized 400 kilos of drugs in the last one year. PTI
