Movie Review: ABCD, a treat for dance lovers

New delhi, Feb 8: If there is a will there is a way. If you have passion for something nothing can stop you from achieving it. Remo D'Souza's “ABCD” is not just about the basics of dancing, but about living your passion and living for passion. And if you are a dance freak (as the flick is all about) you must know that you dance to impress or to express.Vishnu (Prabhu Deva) is lowered down in profile by Jehangir (Kay Kay Menon) for questioning his unwise mode of winning one of the biggest dance competition. Vishu is a dance GURU and working at the desk is not his cup of tea.So he quits Jehangir's dance academy and just when he is about to leave Mumbai city for Chennai, a group of local street dancers performing at Ganapati festival hooks him to stay back in the city and make this group ready for a big competition. So how the team goes freak in dancing and steps up to the big competition 'Dil Se', that's how the story proceeds. Choreographer turned Director Remo D'Souza has come up with the nation's first 3D Dance flick which he claims is Bollywood's answer to Hollywood's 'Step up' series. D'Souza tries hard to give a neck to neck competition to series but despite its incomparable drama he offers you chills and thrills with some never seen before dancing moves. Or, in other words we could say its ‘Step Up' show with a desi tadka.Remo tries to bring about a clear thought process in your mind. Through Raghu, he teaches the importance of discipline and how one can stand out from the crowd. And, as already told, it's not just about the dance it's also about your heart where you want to invest. It's told in '3 Idiots' by Rancho (Amir Khan) that do what your heart wants to and give your fullest. Here one of the dancers struggles with his father who runs a business and wants his son to take authority over. But he is least interested in it and wants to become a dance performer.The Director takes a dig at those big academies who keeps packaging over true talent , like in the opening scene every body is left stunned after Jehangir's group, despite of a poor performance, wins the competition. Despite all this, you have some bad moments to yawn. With a wrapped script and dialogues which are too predictable, the acts of none of the actors are convincing. The scenes on few occasions are too melodramatic. But above all it's a sheer dancing which speaks more in volumes as the climax enthralls you. The choreography is exceptionally brilliant. The solo, fee style and of course the group dance are beautifully choreographed.It was Remo's commitment to Salman Yusuf Khan in the dancing reality show ‘Dance India Dance' to include him in one of his venture and he stands to it.Salman is usual in his dancing skills keeping aside his act. Ganesh Achcarya is undoubtedly the master in dance but he doesn't get too much to tap his foot while he overacts a lot in the flick. Prabhu Deva suffers in his Hindi dialect otherwise he is a good trainer in the flick.Hollywood's reality show ‘Anybody can dance' winner Lauren Gottlieb is unsurprisingly full of talent. She acts well and is undeniably an amazing dancer.KK Menon is indeed the most admirable actor in the flick. He shines in his villainous act. With contact lenses and 'boaty' dialogues he shines.Music by composer duo Sachin-Jigar is convincing in the flick. Most of the songs are situational but won't be remembered once you leave your seat expect the ‘Bezubaan' track.The 3D effect is beautifully gelled making you feel to be one amongst those dancers.I'll go with 2.5 stars for ABCD. It's a treat for dance lovers while the acts and script put the flick down.
