Film director Vishal Mahadkar, who is currently directing Blood Money for Vishesh Films, has been roped in to direct the remake of the 1990 romantic musical Aashiqui, says a Mumbai Mirror report.
The film, which will go on floors next year, was supposed to be directed by Madhur Bhandarkar.
However, since Bhandarkar turned down the offer, the Bhatts decided to hand over the directorial reins to newcomer Mahadkar.
Mahadkar's directorial debut Blood Money is yet to hit the theatres.
The report quotes a source: "Vishesh Films' owners Mahesh and Mukesh are very happy with Vishal's confidence and skills. Blood Money has worked out well."
The film will also feature a new face.
"The film's original cast Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal will not be a part of the Aashiqui 2 . A nation-wide hunt is on to find a fresh face to star in the film," added the source.
Vishesh Films' head Mahesh Bhatt, who directed the original film, said, "Yes, we are making Aashiqui 2 with T-Series, who also produced the original film. It's difficult to divulge any further details, at this point of time."
