New Delhi : Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan's debut TV show ‘Satyameva Jayate' is set to be the first entertainment programme that would be telecast simultaneously by Star Plus and Doordarshan on May 6.
Official sources say, though ‘Satyameva Jayate' was supposed to be telecast on private entertainment channel Star Plus on Sunday, Aamir, 47, wanted a larger audience.
Consequently talks were held with Prasar Bharati for the show to be simulcast on the Doordarshan platform along with its telecast on ‘Star Plus'.
“This is for the first time that an entertainment programme of this kind will be shown at the same time by Doordarshan and a private entertainment channel. Earlier simulcasting was restricted to sport events only,” said a senior official.
While sharing the programme content brings wider publicity and a bigger audience for the show, it has also set Prasar Bharati's cash registers ringing.
“Normally, the time period 11 am on Sunday is a dead slot for Doordarshan, but the Aamir Khan show has meant that advertisement slots will bring in a revenue of around Rs 1 crore,” the official added.
Starting Wednesday the title song of the TV show will be played on 300 screens across the country.
The song will appear after the national anthem and aims to garner visibility for the show.
Viewers watching films at selected multiplexes in Delhi and Mumbai will be asked questions based on the TV show and their answers will be captured on video.
The video clips of those with correct answers will be shown during the film's interval. A media report says, Aamir Khan is getting Rs 3 crore for this TV series.
“It may turn out to be one of the unique and most expensive TV shows in India”, says a source.
