New Delhi: Ravindra Jain was once asked whether his visual disability hampered his work in the film industry. To which Ravindra answered

“Tan ke hisse mein sirf do aankhein hain, Man kee aankhein hazaar hotee hain” (Body as only two eyes but mind has thousands of eyes)

Born on 28 Feb 1944, Jain started learning music at a very young age, becoming one of the most notable music directors of the 1970s.

Especially inspiring is his will-power and never-say-die positive attitude to achieve so many artistic laurels despite his visual handicap.

Here we have compiled 10 facts about the legendary musician

  1. From Saudagar to Vivah, Jain composed music for 20 albums with  Rajshri Films.
  2. In a career spanning over 40 years, Jain composed music for more than 150 films including Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Saudagar, Vivah, Heena and many more.
  3. Jains dedication  towards his work can be understood by the fact that during recording of Saudagar, his father passed away, but he still did not leave the recording room until the recordings were finalized
  4. Jain is credited for introducing Yesudas' velvety voice to Hindi film music. He also discovered many talented artistes including Suresh Wadkar, Jaspal Singh , Aarti Mukherjee, Hemlata.
  5. Jain did all music arrangements himself including the preludes, interludes, harmony chords and notations.
  6. Ravindra Jain was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, in 2015
  7. He had translated 'Quran Sharif' from Arabic to easy lyrical Urdu and composed former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's work 'Qadam Milakar Chalna Hoga'.
  8. The title of the SRK-Kajol blockbuster 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' (1995) is taken from the lyrics of the song composed by Ravindra Jain titled 'Le Jayenge Le Jayenge' from the film 'Chor Machaye Shor' (1974).
  9. Besides films, he had composed music for popular mythological TV serials like 'Ramayan', 'Krishna' and 'Jai Hanuman'.
  10. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' (1985). He received two other Filmfare nominations for Best Music Director for films 'Chitchor' (1976) and for Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se (1978).
