New Delhi, Apr 19: Ashim Ahluwalia directed “Miss Lovely” is representing India at Cannes this year and will be screened as a part of the Un Certain Regard section of the festival.
The film, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui of “Kahaani” fame, Niharika Singh and Anil George, is a Hindi feature film set in the lower depths of Bombay's “C” grade film industry.
“Feeling very happy and honoured. I knew that the film was being considered for the festival but since there was no formal announcement I was not very sure.
“I am leaving for US shortly for the screening of my other film ‘Patang', after which I will definitely attend Cannes with my director and co-actors,” Nawazuddin told PTI.
Cannes 2012 is set to begin on May 16 with Wes Anderson's “Moonrise Kingdom” as the opening film.
Other films in the competition section include “Holy Motors “(Leos Carax), “Cosmopolis” (David Cronenberg) and Lee Daniels' “Paperboy”, said a press release.
“Therese Desqueyroux” by Claude Miller will be the closing film, screened out of competition.
English actor and director Tim Roth will be the president of the Un Certain Regard Jury, part of the Festival de Cannes Official Selection.
