Mumbai, Sep 22: Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar today began working on his pet project ‘Heroine', which was put on the backburner after the announcement of leading lady Aishwarya Rai's pregnancy.
“HEROINE is back on track, pre-production starts from today, need your blessings & prayers!!!,” Bhandarkar wrote on Twitter.
Since the film's inception, Bhandarkar was keen on casting Kareena, who was the original choice for the ambitious project, but due to certain issues the venture did not work out with her, after which Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was finalised.
Aishwarya had announced the project at the Cannes Festival in the month of May and also shot some scenes. But in June, when megastar Amitabh Bachchan broke the news about his daughter-in-law's pregnancy through a social networking site producers UTV took the decision to stall the movie.
‘Heroine' traces the journey of a once successful film actress, whose career is on the decline. The film also stars Arjun Rampal, Arunoday Singh, Shahana Goswami and Amrita Raichand.
Bhandarkar has several hits like ‘Page 3','Chandni Bar' and ‘Fashion' to his credit. PTI
