New Delhi, Feb 26: After impressing audiences at the 62nd Berlin Film Festival, “Gattu” is all set to hit theatres on April 20.

The Rajan Khosa directed film has been produced by Children's Film Society (CFSI) and stars Mohammad Samad as Gattu, Naresh Kumar as Anees Bhai and Bhura as Tiger. The music has been composed by Sandesh Shandilya.

“Gattu is a fun film, full of charm and adventure, made with sensitivity and a keen cinematic eye. Gattu's desire to fulfil his dream, speaks to both children and adults alike.

“We are delighted to produce this film. We hope to reach out to millions of children within the country and elsewhere, to share with them the journey of an orphan boy who finds a reality that is bigger than his dream,” said Nandita Das, CFSI Chairperson.

The story is based in a small town in central India, where kids and adults are equally obsessed with kite-flying.  The airspace is dominated by a black kite called Kali with Mysterious origins.

A street kid Gattu, dreams of defeating Kali but fails.  He discovers that the local school has a roof, which will give him a vantage point.

“In almost every small town in India, you see street kids, selling trinkets, playing pranks and begging. This film belongs to the community of Sati Mohallah in Roorkee where we shot, every object and actor in the film is local, except for a few theatre actors. We scanned the streets and schools for kid actors, inviting them to join our film workshop,” said Khosa.

“Berlin was a very proud moment for us at CFSI. Gattu is a movie that will touch a lot of hearts and I am sure that the audience in India will connect with this little street urchin determined to fulfil his dream,” said Sushovan Banerjee, CEO of CFSI.
