Actress Kangana Ranaut recently targeted filmmaker Karan Johar on his celebrity talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’ by calling him the flag bearer of nepotism. This has started a debate in film industry with Bollywood stars coming forward to express their views on the same.
Aamir Khan
Superstar Aamir Khan, speaking on the subject said that it was natural to help the person you care or love even if he is not part of your family. However, he added that he tries not to allow that as he has some responsibilities towards the creative industry.
Anushka Sharama
Actress Anushka Sharama, who was an outsider to the industry disagreed with Kangana Ranaut and said that she has never faced nepotism in the industry. The actress made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. She said that the production house Yash Raj Films could have easily launched a star kid but Aditya Chopra trusted her and gave her a chance.
Alia Bhatt
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia Bhatt stated that people can get their first film due to nepotism but it was not possible to get more films because of it. She added that she didn’t plan to become Mahesh Bhatt‘s daughter and whatever she has achieved till now is because of her hard work.
Swara Bhaskar
Actress Swara Bhaskar who was appreciated for her powerful acting in films like ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ and ‘Raanjhanaa’, entered the industry without any god father. She reacted on the whole matter and said that her experience in Bollywood was not nepotistic at all. But, she added that there is an element of feudalism and the industry has always been star-driven.
Mahesh Bhatt
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt applauded Kangana and called him a self-made lady. But when it came to nepotism he was firm that Alia didn’t achieve the success because of her family. He said that Alia is also a self-made actress like Kangana.
Well, it’s hard for outsiders to make their place in the star-studded industry but celebrity kids come with their own challenges. The constant public scrutiny, the pressure of getting compared with the family, and much more indicated that it is equally difficult for star kids to carve their niche in Bollywood.
