New Delhi: The Central Board of Film Certification is in news again before the release of a film again. In the recent past some of Censor Board’s decision like cutting seconds of a kissing scene (James Bond’s Spectre) and giving U/A certificate to children fiction movie (The Jungle Book); brought it on the receiving end of flak.
But, now the board has, reportedly, done something totally unexpected. Media reports have it that censor board has ‘grounded’ producer Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Udta Punjab’ because of the bad language. This means that the board has not edited or chopped off scenes; but they have stopped the release of the film altogether. It is also being reported that the Examining Committee rejected the film due to excessive swearing and scenes which showed drug consumption.
The neo-noir drama directed by Abhishek Chaubey is due release on June 17, 2016 and tells about substance abuse in Punjab. The film stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Dilijit Dosanjh in pivotal roles.

According to a media report, the official synopsis of the film by the censor board is as follows;
“Udta Punjab is about the famed Punjabi spirit that despite being slightly down, has the audacity of looking you in the eye and saying – Drugs di maa di!”
After such a strong stance by the censor board, reportedly producer Anurag Kashyap has approached the I&B (Information and Broadcasting) ministry to clear the film. Media reports suggest that Anurag did not want to risk having cuts in the film so he skipped the part where he would go to the revising committee and went straight to Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, minister of state for I&B.
