New Delhi: The upcoming film ‘Udta Punjab’ and Central Board of Film Certification are on the two ends of the globe. After earlier reports suggested that due to excessive swearing the censor board has ‘grounded’ the release, a member from the board denied this. And looks like the board has no issues in giving a green flag to the neo-noir drama; besides the fact that it wants only 40 cuts made in the film.

Fresh reports in the media suggest that the censor board has prescribed 40 cuts in the movie. The board apparently doesn’t approve of cuss words in the film and the visuals of substance abuse.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film boasts of an ensemble cast including Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Dilijit Dosanjh. The film narrates the serious drug problem prevailing in the state of Punjab in which Shahid plays the role of a drug addict rockstar.

Some reports circulating in the media also suggest that the problems this movie is facing is because of the upcoming elections in Punjab. Drug abuse has become a serious problem in the state and many campaigns of parties is revolving around this issue.

Reportedly, Phantom Films’ boss Anurag Kashyap has approached Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of state of Information & Broadcasting ministry, pleading to release the film with A certificate and no cuts. Anurag has asserted that the swearing and substance abuse are necessary for the flow of the film.

Meanwhile, many people including CBFC member Ashoke Pandit have come out in support of the film.

‘Aligarh’ director Hansal Mehta and actress Shruti Seth also took to Twitter to slam the board for taking such steps for the movie, whose story needs to be told.
