New Delhi: Looks like there will be no sighing of relief for makers of neo noir drama ‘Udta Punjab’ before June 17. After much ruckus, the multi-starrer movie was about to release on June 17, following the orders from Bombay High Court.
Just when, co-producers Anurag Kashyap and Ekta Kapoor were breathing calmly after winning an important battle against Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), a copy of the movie was leaked online.
Reports of the media suggested that the leak happened yesterday.
Following such a major blow, Anurag and Ekta have approached the Cyber Crime Cell to help them in this situation, reportedly. A report in entertainment portal SpotboyeE.com read that the duo filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Cell in Bandra Kurla Complex earlier this evening. Apart from investigating the matter, they also asked the cell to delete all the links of the movie’s online version.

The leaked copy of ‘Udta Punjab’ had the ‘Censor Copy’ watermark on the clips. The movie also had the scene where Shahid Kapoor urinates in front of a crowd, leading media reports to suggest that someone in the CBFC leaked it online.
Earlier this evening, the CBFC gave the movie an ‘A’ certificate with 1 cut as ordered by the Bombay HC.
Controversy surrounding ‘Udta Punjab’ started when the CBFC agreed to give the movie an ‘A’ certificate after 89 cuts. The makers challenged this judgement at the Bombay HC and won the case. But, this leak has again created problems for them. This leak will definitely leave an impact on the movie, no matter how small.
