Mumbai: Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh says his upcoming film “Udta Punjab” will create awareness on the issue of drug menace.
“Udta Punjab”, produced by Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Films and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, deals with the issue of substance abuse in Punjab.
“My friends in Canada and US are talking about it (the film). With the kind of hard work and efforts put in for this film, I am sure awareness (about the issue of drug menace) will come,” Diljit told reporters here.
The makers and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had locked horns over clearance for the film.
The Bombay High Court had yesterday ordered CBFC to certify movie ‘Udta Punjab’ within 48 hours with just one cut so that its producers can release the film on June 17.
Asked about various political parties making drug menace as one of the agenda for the upcoming elections, the 32-year-old actor said he had “no idea about the polls”.
“I did this film because it is related to Punjab and it’s a very good story. I think it’s my best debut,” he added.
The movie also stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead.
