New Delhi: Abhishek Choubey’s ‘Udta Punjab’ has been in the limelight since a while now. The movie was stuck in a legal battle between the makers and the CBFC over certification.
A lot was said and written about the controversy. While the Censor Board tried to justify their point, the entire Bollywood industry had come together to oppose its decision.
Several B-town celebs kept their opinions about the controversy. However, it was Kareena Kapoor Khan who didn’t say a word about the entire incident.
Interestingly, Bebo is one of the lead actresses of ‘Udta Punjab’ and plays a key role in the movie. So her silence did raise the eyebrows.
But Kareena has finally opened up on why she was mum over the entire debate.
“The problem was that when this controversy was happening, I was out of town. And also, just because I am not hashtagging and I am not on instagram, and I am not posting #UdtaPunjabSupport, I am very sorry to say, but it doesn't mean that I am not supporting my film. It is very derogatory to judge an actor... like I said, I am not putting it up on twitter and I am not in a panel discussion of 45 people or I am not putting it up on Instagram but I don't think anybody has the right to comment that I am not supporting the film. Because if you ask me a question in an interview, then of course I am going to talk. But nobody asked me a question. I was unable to attend the press conference, because the first time I was in London, and the second time, I was very unwell. And the Producers were aware that I was running on high temperatures and there was nothing that could get me out of bed. I am sorry to say but I would like to tell everybody - the fans and the media - do not misinterpret support just because I am not on Social Media. What about people who are not there? Are they supposed to be shunned because they are not hashtagging people?” Kareena told an entertainment portal.
Well said Bebo.
‘Udta Punjab’ also starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead, is based on the substance abuse among youth in North India. The movie is releasing on June 17.
