New Delhi: ‘Udta Punjab’ makers are currently locked in a legal battle with CBFC over the censorship of the movie. The matter is currently in the Bombay High Court which is scheduled to pronounce the verdict on June 13.
With the controversy deepening it was speculated that Udta Punjab might not release on scheduled date, i.e. June 17. But as per the fresh reports in media, the producers of the movie are gearing up for timely release.
“We are going ahead with the release plans hoping and praying that the honourable High Court will rule in our favour on Monday,” an entertainment portal quoted a source close to Phantom Productions (production house that co-produced Udta Punjab).
Interestingly, Udta Punjab has garnered a lot of attention mainly because of the controversy surrounding it. With open war between movie producers and CBFC chief, the public’s curiosity for the movie has gone up by many folds. And ‘Udta Punjab’ makers don’t want to miss this.
Reportedly, sources from the production house indicate that the number of prints to be put out is likely to be raised in accordance with the growth in the public curiosity during the past week.
“We don’t expect a massive rise in footfalls post the controversy. But more people are definitely interested in the film now than earlier.”
The report further states that ‘Udta Punjab’ producers have advised the two leading ladies – Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor to stay mum on the issue.
“Right now we don’t want anyone associated with the film to say anything that can go against it,” the source added.
Helmed by Abhishek Chaubey, ‘Udta Punjab’ revolves around the problem of substance abuse in Punjab. The movie engulfed in controversy after Censor Board suggested 89 cuts and asked movie makers to drop Punjab from title and remove references about the state from the flick.
