New Delhi: Actor and former chairman of Central Board of Film Certification Anupam Kher has come out in support of movie ‘Udta Punjab’. In a tweet, this evening, Anupam said that the controversy surrounding the movie is shocking.

Multi starrer movie, ‘Udta Punjab’ locked horns with the censor board when the certification body agreed that it will release the movie after 89 cuts and on the condition that ‘Punjab’ is dropped off the title.

This united the entire film fraternity who came out in support of co-producer Anurag Kashyap. Many renowned personalities have till now, spoken on the matter and Anupam is the latest one to join the list.

His tweet read, “#CBFC role in #UdtaPunjabControversy is most shocking. Cinema is a reflection of society. Sometimes a portrayal can help bring a change.”

 

The censor board’s way of handling the entire issue drew flak from almost every nook and corner of Bollywood. A frustrated Anurag Kashyap, likened India to North Korea and called CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani a dictator.

Following a no-go from the board, the makers filed a petition in the Bombay High Court. The hearing of the case has been adjourned till tomorrow.

However, at the hearing earlier today, Judge S C Dharmadhikari came down heavily on the board, asking them to justify the suggested 13 cuts in the movie. The Judge also asked what problems the board has with the name of Punjab in the title, when in the past movies like, ‘Go Goa Gone’ and ‘Bombay To Goa’ have been released.
