Total Dhamaal has finally entered the coveted Rs 100 crore club. After making an impressive opening, this multi-starrer film scored a century on day nine. Directed by Indra Kumar, the third instalment of Dhamaal franchise features Ajay Devgn, Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey and Riteish Deshmukh in important roles. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to break the news. He also wrote that it is the first Rs 100 crore film of Madhuri Dixit. Total Dhamaal is also Ajay’s ninth, Anil and Arshad’s third and Riteish’s fifth to mint over Rs 100 crore.
Despite a non-holiday release and negative reviews, Total Dhamaal has shattered all the records. Audience has whole-heartedly accepted the film because of its mindless comedy. Total Dhamaal is about a bunch of greedy goofballs who want to make their fortune with Rs 50 crore bounty. They kick-start an adventurous journey only to be pitted against zoo animals. There is situational comedy and also, pairing of Madhuri and Anil as a bonus.
Madhuri and Anil have earlier teamed up with Kumar for his 1992 hit Beta. Talking about collaborating with Madhuri once again, Anil said: "We've teamed up in so many movies that we could tell each other's responses on camera without any discussion. I am very comfortable working with Madhuri''.
Meanwhile, Paan Singh Tomar director Tigmanshu Dhulia took a sly dig at Total Dhamaal. He believes that taste of audience is deteriorating drastically. According to him, last year blockbuster success of small-budget films like Stree and AndhaDhun should be considered exceptions because films with "trash and filth" still continue to be money-spinners.
In a conversation with PTI, the director said, ''Now suddenly you see these Dhamaals and all these films, whose trailers itself have so much trash, filth, earn Rs 200 crore. That means they are being watched by the multiplex audience''.
Total Dhamaal Movie Review
The story of the film doesn't bring anything new on the table and rather follows the same notes of Dhamaal. Similar to its first edition, Total Dhamaal has five pairs of cartoonish characters - conmen Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Mishra, a Gujju-Marathi couple played by Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, two firemen Riteish Deshmukh and Pitobash, fun jodi of Adi-Maanav played by Arshad Warsi and Javed Jafferi respectively, and police commissioner Boman Irani with inspector Vijay Patkar.
All these five pairs are on a run to find the hidden secret treasure of Rs. 50 crore in a zoo in a place called Janakpur. The film tries to bring out humour in the life-threatening situations for these characters.
