Who hasn’t swayed and swooned to the charms of a loving couple Gunja and Chandan, singing Gunja Re, on the banks of River Ganges. Yes, we are talking about 1982 film Nadiya Ke Paar actress Sadhana Singh who made a smashing debut with the Bhojpuri film produced by Rajshri Films. Sadhana Singh became so popular that wherever she went, people called her by her screen name Gunja. Her pairing with Sachin (who played Chandan) was adored by her fans. It is also said that when the shooting of the film got over in Jaunpur village, the villagers cried when they were leaving.
Apart from Nadiya Ke Paar, the actress also did films like Piya Milan, Sasural, Falak, Paapi Sansar among others but she suddenly left the film industry and reportedly became a homemaker. Talking to media she had said that she wasn't getting the kind of roles she wanted. The film is based on hindi novel titled ‘Kohbar Ki Shart’ by Keshav Prasad Mishr. The film was dubbed in Telugu and was titled Premlayam. Did you know Sadhana Singh was in Standard 10 while the film was being shot.
After many years she will be seen in Anurag Kashyap's Mukkabaaz which is scheduled to release on November 10. The movie stars Vineet Singh in lead and Jimmy Shergill as antagonist.
