Ranbir Kapoor was Karan Johar’s first choice in Takht with Ranveer Singh

Karan Johar has done that no other Bollywood director has done so far. He brought Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ranveer Singh in a film together. It would be the first time Kareena and Ranveer will be featuring together in a Bollywood movie. Now reports are saying, instead of Vicky Kaushal, KJo had some other name in his mind to cast with Ranveer Singh and it was none other than Sanju actor Ranbir Kapoor.

Vicky Kaushal, who will be playing Aurangzeb in the film wasn’t Karan Johar’s first choice. Accoridng to a Pinkvilla report, Karan was keen on casting Ranbir Kapoor for the role. He even approached the actor for the same and the latter was also about to give his nod. But, Ranbir Kapoor has been already keeping busy with Brahmastra, as it is a three-film series. After this, he will start shooting for Shamshera and then go to Luv Ranjan’s next with Ajay Devgn. Hence, due to lack of dates, Ranbir Kapoor had no other option than to opt out of Takht.

A source told the leading entertainment portal, “Ranbir was more than excited to work on this project which would have been his first film with his sister Kareena Kapoor Khan. Apart from Bebo, this would have been his first project with Ranveer Singh too. In fact, when Ranveer and Ranbir had come together on Koffee with Karan, both had expressed their desire to work together. Hence it was all the more exciting. But things didn’t work out and that is when KJo approached Vicky Kaushal.”

Takht will go on floors next year and is slated to release sometime in 2020. It stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Anil Kapoor in important roles.
