Shaad Ali's directorial Soorma is getting mixed reviews from audience and critics. While Diljit Dosanjh's performance is heart-winning, direction and writing have failed to get good numbers. The movie starring Taapsee Pannu, Angad Bedi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Satish Kaushik among others besides Diljit in the titular role has been applauded by Bollywood celebrities.
Trade analyst predicted its first-day collection to be around Rs 3 crore and proving them true, Soorma minted Rs 3.25 crore on its first day. Starting slow, the movie picked up the pace in evening. Trade gurus are expecting a growth in business during weekends over word of mouth.
Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to write,'' After a slow start in morning shows [North India opening was good due to Diljit Dosanjh’s stardom], #Soorma gathered momentum from evening onwards... Is looking at substantial growth on Sat and Sun thanks to strong word of mouth... Fri ₹ 3.25 cr. India biz.''
Soorma is a biopic on former Hockey player, Sandeep Singh also known as Flicker Singh. The movie traces his journey from being a lazy lad to a determined man who didn't give up despite being shot by bullet. Sandeep met with a deadly accident and was on a wheelchair for years. However, the sportsperson made a smashing comeback after two years, becoming an inspiration for many. Under the captaincy of Sandeep, India won the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and even qualified for the 2012 Olympics.
