Actress Sonam Kapoor with a recent statements put light on prevalent sexism in Bollywood. Speaking on how the rules of Hindi film industry are different, Sonam said that the amount of money actors draw for their movies is higher than what actresses get.
The diva was in conversation with her younger brother actor Harshvarhdhan Kapoor with Anupama Chopra for a YouTune channel said that sexism in industry was disgusting.
Sonam said that she and her sister Rhea Kapoor faced troubles to raise money for the latter’s directorial venture ‘Veere Di Wedding’. She said that they are facing this problem despite the fact that the movie features another A-lister actress- Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Sonam’s younger sibling when he said that post ‘Neerja’ she can easily make a women centric movie with 70% more of the budget. In a frustrated tone the diva schooled Harshvardhan saying that she has been trying to get things off the floor but that it isn’t happening.
Denying that things have changed for women in the industry, Sonam said she and Kareena had to settle for a lesser remuneration for the chick flick movie.
“Kareena and I are two huge stars, she's given Ki and Ka, I've had Neerja, and still as a woman in this industry, I don't get my price. I'm still having difficulties getting projects off the floor with the budgets that I need, to shoot them properly. My sister had said (Rhea Kapoor), how many films will you have to do and how many hits will you have to give before you get what you want?,” Sonam said.

Sonam went on to say that the paycheque actors John Abraham and Varun Dhawan got for ‘Dishoom’ is fatter than what she got for ‘Veere Di Wedding’. She said,
“I hate to say it but I think we have a wider audience and we can open a film as big as them. But just because they are men, they will get more money. This is disgusting.”
The actress said that this current trend is absolutely heartbreaking and hoped that next generation would be free from this sexism.
“I am not here to make money though it would be nice. But I would like my projects to get the money. I am not asking for it,” Sonam added.
