Sonakshi Sinha’s last release ‘Akira’ has shown a slow growth at the box office on it first weekend as it has managed to earn Rs 16.65 crores at the box office.
The good news for Sonakshi is that ‘Akira’, despite being women centric movie, has performed pretty well when compared to the movies like Aishwarya Rai’s ‘Jazbaa’, Rani Mukerji’s ‘Mardaani’ and Anushka Sharma’s ‘NH10’. However, it has failed to beat the collections of Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Mary Kom’ which earned over Rs 30 crores in its opening weekned
All these movies had approximately reached the mark of Rs15 crores in their opening weekend despite having all the A-lister actresses in the lead. The movie might see a hike in its collection on its first Monday considering that it is a holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh took it to micro-blogging site Twitter and shared the opening weekend report for the movie.
He tweeted, “#Akira shows 16.98% growth on Sun... Fairly good trending... Fri 5.15 cr, Sat 5.30 cr, Sun 6.20 cr. Total: â¹ 16.65 cr. India biz”.
Interestingly, the movie has already recovered half of the cost of production of the Rs 30 crores budget movie.
Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, ‘Akira’ revolves around a girl who comes to Mumbai from Jodhpur, where she gets into a tiff with goons at a college in which she gets enrolled.
Interestingly, Anurag Kashyap came as a surprise element for many and has impressed the audience with his performance as a villain in ‘Akira’.
Anurag confessed that though he was sceptical of doing the movie initially, he is now proud of his performance. ‘Akira’ also features Konkona Sen Sharma in a key role.
The lead actress Sonakshi Sinha had reportedly said that ‘Akira’ is one of the most important movies of her career and that it has happened at the right time of her career. Sonakshi has indeed been praised for her powerful performance in the movie.
