The punches and kicks thrown by actress Sonakshi Sinha in ‘Akira’ have turned into footfalls at the theatres. The movie directed by A.R. Murugadoss saw a decent opening at the box office as it minted Rs 5.15 crore at the box office.
The movie earned momentum during the evening shows maybe because of the positive word of mouth.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the collections earlier this morning:
By adding such an amount to its collections, ‘Akira’ has surged ahead of movies like ‘NH10’ and ‘Mardaani’. These movies too had a female protagonist fighting against corruption.

While on the first day ‘Mardaani’ earned Rs 3.46 crore ‘NH10’ raked in Rs 3.46 crore.
The action flick has Sonakshi in the lead role and her portrayal has been appreciated by critics. Some have said that Sonakshi’s performance is her career best as she has managed to break all clichés engulfing her. Over the years, Sonakshi has developed an image that she acts in remakes of South Indian movies, just as an eye candy and her only job is to match dancing steps with the actor.
But with ‘Akira’, Sonakshi has shown that she can not only dance but not miss her aim at fights too. Though, few critics termed story weak, they accepted that Sonakshi breathes life to it.
The movie also stars Anurag Kashyap and Konkana Sen Sharma in pivotal roles.
