Actor-filmmaker Ajay Devgn’s latest release ‘Shivaay’ has showed a massive growth at the box office on Monday. The movie minted Rs 17.35 crore on the first Monday since its release on October 28. As it happens, this is the maximum money minted by the much awaited movie.
By adding such an amount to its collection, the movie now stands at a total of Rs 45.91 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted this about the collections:
‘Shivaay’ locked horns with ‘Ae Dil Hai Muhskil’ on October 28, making it for one of the biggest box office clashes in Bollywood. Both the highly talked about movies had a lot at stake at the box office and all eyes were set on the D-day.
The first day, however did not bring good news for ‘Shivaay’ as Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ took lead. In fact, ADHM maintained its lead on all days. While ‘Shivaay’ earned Rs 17.35 crore on Monday, ADHM on the other hand raked in Rs 17.75 crore.
Now, the jump in collections can be attributed to the cuts in the movie. A few days ago it was reported that to ensure he doesn’t miss out on Diwali collections and extracts maximum benefit from it, Ajay Devgn went back to the edit table. The makers said that the movie was chopped by seven minutes.
Another factor that may have contributed towards this terrific jump is the end of the festive weekend. While in the starting days, people were busy celebrating Diwali with their friends and families, Monday must have given them time to go outside and watch the movie.
With the growth shown on Monday, it remains to be seen if ‘Shivaay’ takes over ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ in the coming days or not.
