New Delhi: For Shahid Kapoor, the success of ‘Udta Punjab’ is nothing less than a surprise as the actor says he never expected the film to score the biggest opening weekend of his career.
The Abhishek Chaubey-directed film, which talks about the drug menace in the state of Punjab, was released on June 17 and has raked in Rs 52 crore in 10 days.
Indeed, Shahid is way too happy with the response the movie has been receiving. He said, “It is very weird that something so dark has turned out to be the biggest opening of my career. I don’t know what to make out of it. I am extremely happy that people understood the film.”
Shahid Kapoor plays the role of Tommy Singh, a Punjabi rockstar who is a drug addict with a wild aggressive nature.
On the other hand, Mira Rapjut, who was quite shocked to see her hubby as Tommy Singh in ‘Udta Punjab’, is also keeping a tab on audience response towards the movie and Shahid’s character.
According to the media reports, Mira is very happy and overwhelmed.
“Mira was following on all that audiences were commenting on in regards with his acting prowess in the film! After gathering on how the actor was receiving wonderful feedback for his performance, she was very happy and overwhelmed,” a source told a leading daily.
Apparently, Mira was one of the first few people to see ‘Udta Punjab’ and praise Shahid for his performance.
Currently, Mira and Shahid are excited to welcome their first child. Mira is in the third trimester of her pregnancy and the couple are expected to be parents around mid-September.
