New Delhi: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s last release ‘Fan’ had created a lot of buzz. Sadly, the buzz did not transform in good box-office numbers and the movie eventually turned out to be a flop. Despite having King Khan in the lead, the film’s journey towards entering the Rs 100 crore club appears to be a long shot as it earned only Rs 80 crore in India by end of the second week.

Given ‘Fan’s’ debacle, it is easy to assume that Shah Rukh Khan would be having sleepless nights; especially after his last movie ‘Dilwale’ too witnessed a similar fate. However, SRK says that he has seen too many failures in his career to let one leave an impact on him.

During a recent interview with a leading daily, King Khan said that career highs and lows don’t affect him much.

“I feel really sad when I am unable to deliver something. I don’t feel it (the sadness) because Rs. 200 crore nahin hua (my movie couldn’t make Rs. 200 crore). People assume I must be worried. But it (film-making) is a business, and it gets by. I have seen too many failures to get disturbed. But yes, the disheartening part of failure still hurts,” he said.

He added,

“Yes, losing can become very personal. I deal with it by genuinely closing up and becoming very quiet, and spending a lot of time with myself and my kids. But then, sometimes, I also get scared, because I don’t want to transfer that sadness to them; they can sense it. But my sadness is never a result of my failure at the box office.”

When questioned if people’s perceptions matter to him, he said,

“Sometimes, yes, but not the blatantly extreme ones. But sometimes, some people’s points of view do [affect me]. See, I feel I must be really emotionally important to them, for them to have such strong views about me. I must be making a difference to their lives, for them to really care that much. Having said that, they (people’s opinions) have their own little pricks and pins, and you do feel them sometimes.”

Though, in his interview Shah Rukh Khan did not mention ‘Fan’, it can be said that the star has his own ways of dealing with box office failures. The movie had all the ingredients to be a blockbuster. It had a Khan, an experienced director Maneesh Sharma (who had helmed Band Baaja Baarat) and a big production house- YRF. Yet, the dish turned out to be bland in terms of earnings.

Khan, unaffected by ‘Fan’s’ failure is putting his entire concentration on his next release ‘Raees’. Post that he will be working with Anand L Rai and Imtiaz Ali.
