Pakistani actress Mahira Khan’s debut in Bollywood with superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ has stumbled on a roadblock. The latest development suggests that Mahira’s role in the movie has been chopped off. The makers have taken this decision keeping in mind the flak that Pakistani actors received after the Uri attacks, said a media report.
Post the horrific attack on the army base camp, demand to not involve Pakistani actors in Bollywood movies gained mileage. While in movies like ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Dear Zindagi’, the roles of Fawad Khan and Ali Zafar respectively remained intact; Mahira met a different fate.
Out of the two songs that Mahira reportedly had in the movie, one has been edited. Also one of her romantic sequence with King Khan has been sacrificed too.
In February, Mahira and SRK shot in Bhuj and post that a nikaah sequence was filmed in Ahmadabad. After this the duo headed to Mumbai for shooting. A picture from the sets that showed SRK driving a jeep and Mahira sitting beside him, had gone viral from the Mumbai schedule.
It was reported that the on screen pair are yet to shoot their opening sequence and a song, but seems that won’t happen. SRK recently finished his opening sequence and is expected to wrap up few other scenes shortly. As far as Mahira is concerned, she won’t be arriving in India for shooting nor the crew will go abroad to film her.
This means she will now have to be content with whatever has been filmed.
Speaking about her truncated scenes, a source told that ‘Raees’ isn’t about a romantic movie. It is a movie of a bootlegger and his battle with a cop, so chopping Mahira’s scenes wasn’t difficult.
“It wasn’t difficult to trim her role which has been done with the intention of not hurting public sentiment,” the source was quoted by the daily.
