It was one of the most memorable Saturday night for Shah Rukh Khan as the superstar was honoured with the 4th National Yash Chopra Award in Mumbai by veteran actress Rekha.
King Khan was elated and said that Yash Chopra was the one who actually made him the Badshah of Bollywood.
The “Raees” actor is known to have shared a fantastic bonding with the late filmmaker. So, it was a nostalgic and emotional time for the actor as he received the prestigious Award.
The coveted award is given to B-town celebs for their remarkable contribution to cinema. SRK is the fourth recipient of the award, The previous recipients of this award include Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha.
Shah Rukh was presented with the award by Rekha. Also present at the award function were the late director's wife Pamela Chopra, Shatrughan Sinha, Jaya Prada, Padmini Kolhapure, Simi Grewal and many more.
Shah Rukh was excited and emotional during his acceptance speech. “This is one of the most important evenings of my life. I am very emotional. Yash Chopra has single-handedly created my career. It is a strange circle that I am receiving an award, which honours him and is in his memory, and I am who I am because of what Yash Chopra made me do.”
At the award function, King Khan spoke to the media and said "Yash ji was unique in his own way. A very earnest, honest and straightforward person. His simplicity makes him special."
SRK, who has featured in some of the best hits directed by Chopra like 'Darr', 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai', 'Veer-Zaara' and 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' said that it was extremely special moment for him to accept the award that is in memory of the legendary Chopra who has been a father-figure to him.
